Converse Participates in 25th Southeast Model Arab Conference
Converse participated in the Southeast Regional Model Arab Conference, hosted on the Converse University campus in March. This is the 23rd year that the event has been held at Converse.
Converse, representing Iraq, took the Outstanding Delegate Award in 7 of the 8 Councils to claim first place at the competition. Converse also had a second country with only three representatives; despite the small team, one of the members of that delegation took the Outstanding award in the Social Council.
Steven Greer ’22 and Sierra Feser ’23 were selected as the Outstanding Chairs and Pashion Israel ’24 received the Distinguished award. Hayley Gordon ’23 served as Secretary General.
Two former Converse head delegates, Sidney Jones ’17 and Kennedy Anderson ’21 (Nisbet Scholar) were the conference keynote speakers. Sidney was a program director for the National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations before working in public relations for the Embassy of Qatar in Washington, DC. She is now an independent consultant.
Kennedy is the press secretary for the Honorable James Clyburn from South Carolina, the former Democrat House Whip. Delaney Leslie ’22 (Nisbet Scholar) and Hannah Norton ’22 (Nisbet Scholar), the present National Council program assistants administering Model Arab League programs nationally and internationally, were the Council’s representatives at this year’s Southeast Model Conference.
